Pet Remembrance Day

Pet Remembrance Day is a day in which we take a moment out of our busy lives to reflect upon, honour and celebrate pets who are no longer by our side. There are countless ways to remember, honour or celebrate a pet any day of the year. The best way is whatever feels the most natural and comfortable to you. There is no right or wrong way to honour your pet. Whichever way you choose, it will be the perfect solution for you and your pet that will hold a special place in your heart.

Light a candle – It is an excellent, easy way to honour a beloved pet. You can also light candles online, which others can view. You can light it on their birthday, adoption day, or the day of their passing. If you light a candle, be sure to put it out if unattended!

Plant a tree or flower garden – The entire family can participate in the dedication of a living memorial. If you don’t have a green thumb or aren’t in a living situation with access to a yard where you can plant things, there are many available resources online where you can donate to plant a tree in the memory of your pet. It also helps the environment! A great way to honour your pet.

Keepsake box or shadow box – Many people choose to keep a few of their pet’s belongings, such as their collar and a favourite toy, in a keepsake box. You can also fill it with their photos, a clipping of fur, or anything else that may remind you of them. A shadow box is another way to pay tribute to a lost pet by placing a photo, collar or toy, and a verse of your choosing into a glass box which you can hang.

Volunteer or make a donation to your local rescue group. What better way to honour your pet than by helping others in need? While it may be difficult at first to volunteer with other pets, you can also make donations (Food, money, blankets, toys, etc.) to local groups to help with other pets in need.

Create a scrapbook – Scrapbooking is a good opportunity for you to go through your favourite photos and memories to create something personalized for the memory of your pet. It is a good way to relieve stress and use creativity to help celebrate the life of a lost pet.
